Parents as Partners, 8 January 2009

Meeting called to order followed by an introduction of those present.

Principal Singer's report:

Vision Statements: Teachers met for the second time and broke into 3 groups and discussed three areas.

  1. Healthy learning environments - discussing the means in which to measure learning. i.e. the presentation of awards/assembly's etc. and their impact on students.
  2. Communicating and collaborating - how to make teams work.
  3. Research practice group - what's the purpose of homework? Discussion included the manner in which to grade homework and at what level it becomes a part of the school work grading.

Locker Room Painting : held on January 10th. Parent Andrew Boutin has volunteered free labor to construct 6 - 4' benches for the locker rooms. Thank you Andrew for your generosity.

Parent Information Nights :

  1. January 22 - 7 - 8p.m. - Realignment the algebra program for 7th and 8th graders for next year.
  2. January 29 - 7 - 8 p.m. - Technology - safety at home and school.
  3. February 5 - 7 - 8 p.m. - Discussion with school nurse on drugs, alcohol and other health issues.

Basketball tournament : Requiring volunteers 18 February - 21 February. If interested please email Lori Picard at lapicard@aol.com. Help is needed in the snack bar, crowd control and selling tickets. Party to follow the tournament at the teen center. Lori is looking for someone to coordinate this event next year

GASP (Games And Sports Program) : Friday March 13th 7 - 9. Again lots of volunteers are needed. Bake cakes for raffle, help run games, serve refreshments and crowd control. Contact Lori Picard for more information or to volunteer. Lori gave a financial report of the GASP $. Started last year with $500 + 1,522 in admissions - 1,200 in expenses = $900 roughly to start the program with this year. This event is a great success and a lot of fun for all grades.

Box tops: We received a check for $115.

Snack Cart: An inquiry was made for some funds from the snack cart to be disbursed to the Nurses Discretionary Fund. The funds will be allocated for this

Upcoming Date: Following the 9 April 2009 PAP meeting a discussion will take place with school counselors on issues of depression, anxiety, cutting bulimia, etc.

Dance Dates: 3/27 (8th grade), 5/15
June promotion night and dance for the 8th graders sometime in June

P.A.P. Dates: 2/5, 3/5, 4/9, and 5/7
