Parents as Partners, Thurs June 4th 2009
Attendance:Gail O'Connell, Laurie Singer, Kelley Charland, Sharon Sturm, Laura Cunningham Firkey, Woody Martel , Beth Glaspie, Geoff Glaspie
6th graders will work on Summer Olympics at Maple Street Park next week and needs more parent volunteers for this event to supervise and do some facilitation of land-based events.
7th graders went on their Montreal trip this week and it was great! The medieval fair was also a lot of fun.
8th graders' promotion night happens on Wednesday evening, following a day of activities including a boat cruise. Sleepover happens tomorrow night. Laurie has plenty of chaperones lined up. Each class member gets an individual star with their photo and their name in calligraphy (courtesy of Tina Logan) to take home. Discussion point - how to attach the stars with filament to the existing ceiling hooks in such a way that when they are removed the filament comes down as well.
Discussion point - there must be more parents who would willingly volunteer. How can we communicate with these parents next year to expand the list of possible volunteers? Suggestion to mine names and contact information from the school directory - Laura will act on this for next year. Suggestion to have "less threatening" wording on future questionnaires to help people understand that even very occasional participation is helpful. Suggestion to include PAP questionnaire in the packet that goes home at the beginning of the school year
Thank you for all of PAP's accomplishments this year! Thanks to the Snack Shack crew for supporting our students.
Please save box tops over the summer for Ann Malle's stash in the fall.
Next year's first PAP meeting will happen on September 3, the second day of school, with Gail at the helm.
Thanks to Julie for her excellent leadership of PAP!
The meeting adjourned at 6:55 for Laurie Singer's school report night, presented by PPT.
